Wow. This is one good looking bike. Sure, the TZR250 is a killer ride out of the gate. Everyone who follows RSBFS knows how special the two stroke 250 is. Power to weight is the key here. You get a package that is going to handle like a dream with the kind of power that will keep up with many. Plus, it is just a beautiful bike.

1992 Yamaha TZR 250 RS Racing Sport 3XV8 Dry Clutch California Rare

This TZR 250 3XV8 Racing Sport is a very rare bike with factory dry clutch and I would guess there are probably only two or three here in the US and this is the only one that I know of here in California with a California title and plate. And yes this bike was grandfathered in and is registered to its 9 digit vin so its very rare. 

This bike still has all the original 3XV farinings complete, original windscreen, stock pipes and silencers etc. Mechanically I have over $3200 in parts receipts from Red Line CI and TSR worldwide, as new. The entire motor has been gone through within the last 2000 miles all factory OEM Yamaha parts, new crankshaft, pistons, rings, bearings, seals, clutch, clutch basket, friction plates, springs, etc. The Bridegstone BT016s only have limited mileage on them and bike has been fully services only running Motul 710 since. The fuel lines and carbs (bowl gaskets etc) have been services and the bike retains its original 3XV battery, most of these get the battery tossed in the truck, it goes under the seat. The bike starts easily and is built by, in my opinion, the best two stroke builder of all time; Yamaha. 

The 3XVs are the closest of he two strokes to a true GP bike derived and very close to a TZ but manageable for the street. The feel, braking, feedback, is on par with the best of the best. The handling is superb, but its really the feel on the road that separates them, bar none. I have owned a few two strokes and these are quite special and definitely the most fun to ride of the 90′s era bikes. This bike will come up in first for sure and with a nudge in second. I had an R and it was nowhere as quick. This bike is for sale locally so the auction can end anytime. 

I can go on and on about it but the pics, condition, maintenance history, and title should be enough ……. if you are fortunate enough to be able to own one of these, I would highly recommend a 3XV. 3XVs are quite rare of all the two strokes but the RS was limited to 1000 units and has the factory dry clutch which is also new ($1000), adjustable rear suspension, etc. Clear California title and current registration in hand, sold As is. Based on the information from the seller, this bike is clean, original and well maintained. The seller details all of the maintenance work recently done to the bike and it sounds extensive. The photos certainly show a very clean machine with no real visible flaws. The bike is titled, which is a bonus.

This is a cool bike and we’ll see where the seller put the reserve on the auction. Something tells me this thing ain’t gonna be cheap. But titled two strokes in this kind of shape rarely are. However, if you have the means, then I am jealous, and you should take a look at this auction.

Up for grabs here we have the race-proven Ducati 851. Now, it isn’t an SP model, but don’t let that deter you from taking a look. We all now that Ducati basically wiped the slate clean and when the 851 dropped, it featured a liquid cooled motor, four valves per cylinder, and electronic fuel injection. It had to do something to keep up with the Japanese bikes of the day, and it proved very effective in Superbike racing.

This 851 in particular is a one-owner example and looks to have been well taken care of in maintenance through its lifetime. If the seller is true in his owning an YB-6 and RC30 at the time of owning this, I would be inclined to say he was no stranger to up-keep of high end motorcycles. An SP clutch cover and rear sprocket with a Pro-Italia chip highlight a short list of modifications to the bike.

More from the seller:

…The clutch cover was replaced with a Ducati SP ventilated unit. The rear sprocket was also replaced with an alloy Ducati SP item. The micro chip was first replaced with a Euro chip, which was about as ennimic as theUSspec one. So a Pro-Italia +5 chip was installed. That did the trick.

The air filter was replaced with a K&N air filter, and the restrictive exhaust baffles were removed. These were just held in by one spot weld and were designed to be removed.

The side stand has been modified, so as to not retract when weight is not upon it.

I gas tank pad was placed on the tank for protection.

The bike was used until about 1994. Then it was placed into storage, with about 3500 miles on it.

In about 2006 it was taken out of storage with the aim of returning it to the road.

The oil and filter were changed. A new battery purchased. The timing belts were replaced. The brake and clutch fluids were replaced. The valve adjustments were checked.

Them were had our second child, so it went back into storage with about 3900 miles on it. I put new Metzler Z3 tires on the bikes just before storage…

The opening bid is set for $10k, which is higher than most 851’s we have seen considering it is a non-SP version. However, finding a one owner and well maintained example isn’t all that common. Déjà Vu anyone? You might be thinking to yourself, “I feel like I have seen this bike before… maybe in my dreams?” Well, if you are an avid RSBFS reader then you have probably seen this bike posted back in December when it was for sale by its original owner. Check out the original post here.

This 900RR is now currently for sale again by (what I have decoded though various forms of calculus, string theory, and quantum mechanics) it’s second owner. It appears to be in its same condition before with a stock nature except for a braided brake lines, Yoshimura exhaust, and fender eliminator. And it has only racked up another 39 miles from its current owner.

Big liter bikes like this FZR1000 were a big deal back in ’92. Sportbikes were still kind of in their infancy in the early 90′s. For instance, 1992 was the first year of the GSX-R 600. The 1000 ruled all and the FZR1000 was a big part of that scene on the track and the street. These bikes aren’t what today’s 1000′s are, but they are still no slouches. This machine put out around 145 BHP, plenty to make the horizon come up on you quick.

This bike looks to be in great shape and the mileage is relatively low. It was apparently dropped at some point and has a crack in the fairing near the turn signal. The seller highlights that and includes a good photo. This could be an issue if you want a minty bike. It may be repairable or you could always look for a replacement fairing, although either may not be easy. The bike comes with the original exhaust and cool solo seat cover. Bonuses for sure.

The seller is asking $5k for this ride, which may be a little on the high side, but certainly not outrageous. These are not easy to find in any condition, so if you can give it a good home, make the jump!

We got a positive response from our first parts post so here is your next installment.  This little gem is a new, old stock, VJ22 kit stage 2 CDI.  If I remember correctly VJ22 kit parts came in F1, F2 and F3 categories.  F3 being extremely hard to get and rare items.  I think at one time there was even an F3 frame available.

I’ve collected VJ23 kit parts for years and whenever I’ve seen a Kokusan sticker like that my heart beats a little faster.  It is key to identifying the more rare/higher end race kit CDI’s.  What is interesting is Suzuki kit parts generally end in “ERO” (XRO is works stuff)  but this CDI does not.  It doesn’t even have the usual blue Autorimessa (they supplied Suzuki kit items in Japan) sticker.

Have I got you excited to buy this thing?  Well, here comes the rain on your parade.  You need other kit parts for it to work properly.  You’ll also need the kit harness, generator and flywheel and good luck finding those nowadays.  Second, there are other modern alternatives that would actually give you more performance.  To a collector though,  it is hard to pass on a chance to own the real deal.

I think this bad boy was designed  to mount to the tach bracket so you’ll have to track one of those down too!  I have to give  thanks to the guys on the RGV Forum (rgv250.co.uk) because I needed their help to even identify this thing.  They also said these electrics sold for over $2,000 (1200GBP) back in 1993.  They also added they didn’t notice a huge difference from the stage one electrics.

Of course this falls into one of those totally unnecessary  but  sure cool to own items.  Did I mention the seller wants some serious $$$ for this?  He is open to offers though.  Maybe try the, “it needs more parts to be worth that much” route.

How about this for a consolation prize? A brand new VJ22 magnesium magneto cover.

I’m 99% sure this is a kit item as well.  Not sure why it doesn’t have the usual kit part numbers or stickers.  This one isn’t cheap either.

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this.  It is a page from the Autorimessa race kit catalog for the VJ22 back in 1991.  If you look closely they have it divided up into Kit A SP, Kit B SP F3 and another I can’t identify.  Maybe the whole set?  I’m also noticing no “ERO” part numbers.  You can also identify kit/Autorimessa parts as they will begin with 000A-then numbers.  Those are Autorimessa part numbers though, not Suzuki.  Have I confused the hell out of you yet or maybe just bored you?

The 750 isn’t a common displacement for the sportbike anymore. You can get a Suzuki GSX-R 750, and well, that’s about it. But that wasn’t always the case. Used to be that all the major manufacturers offered a 750. I liked those days. They offer what the GSX-R 750 offers now: Big power and a small chassis. Now, you could argue that the 1000′s are really approaching the same standard, but I still wish the 750′s were offered. Since they’re not, here’s a chance for one.

The seller says the bike is basically stock except for the Muzzy exhaust, not exactly uncommon for a Kawasaki back in the day. The mileage is still low for the bike’s age. The paint looks good and no other significant issue appear to exist, except for the crack in the break light the seller highlights.

Bikes this old and this clean are becoming harder and harder to find. It may not be the performance demon that you get in today’s bikes, but it was certainly a cool ride back then and I think still looks great today. As the rarer bikes continue to get more expensive, like the ZX-7R, this may be an option that won’t break the bank.

Jay W. shot us the link to this great looking 89 Suzuki 750 with 1100 motor and bodywork. It’s located in Ontario, Canada and is currently at $3550 USD reserve not met with just about a day left.

Andy in New Zealand spotted this Honda NR750 for sale in the UK on eBay. The classified states it may be the only zero mile example in existence. Further they’re only asking £109,999.00 for the privilege.

Cael emailed us this sharp looking 1989 Ducati 750 Sport for sale in Kelowna, Canada for $4900 CAD. Seller is asking just $4900 for this bike “If you have the brass and the cash, it’s your turn. Please make sure to ask your wife if it’s OK to buy the bike if you need to. ” Love it! Good luck to the seller.

Finally Steven sent us this very sharp 1994 Ducati 888 SPO for sale in Toronto on Kijiji for $12750 CAD.

At our last RSBFS executive retreat in Bora Bora we kicked around the idea of bringing you hard to find and rare parts we spot.  It won’t be a regular  feature but simply when something catches our eye and we don’t buy it, we will pass it along to you.  If you guys bitch and moan that it doesn’t include two wheels, a frame and an engine then this might be the first and last post on parts.

I would hope I have some RC45 owners excited with this find. I don’t even own one and want to buy this.  I’m pretty good at identifying Suzuki kit parts but the HRC stuff is newer to me.  I’m fairly confident this is a real HRC kit item.  I have seen some items for sale in Japan that have “HRC” stamped on them but the seller did not include any close ups.  The build quality looks to be of high spec which is what you would expect from HRC.

Damn, I love that discoloration ti exhausts get.

The seller say the original sales price was in the neighborhood of 4,000 GBP (that is $6,400!).

Looks like a tight squeeze.  Just a slight word of warning if you want these for your street bike.  I’ve modified my RGV with kit parts and you will find you buy one part and then have to modify others to make it fit because of street equipment.  Not saying that is the case here, just something to keep in mind.

Ah yes…. It’s been 10 long years since BBoz was in his prime and killing it on the factory L&M Ducati. The 998′s are getting a little long in the tooth and the Bostrom editions are getting on about as well as Bens pork chops. Nonetheless, I still have a soft spot for these and I will probably never grow tired of them (or the Bayliss edition for that matter)

A flamed paint job makes anything faster right? It must add at least 5hp and if you don’t believe that then you have to admit it looks good on top of the carbon fiber fairings that were standard on the 155.
